My studio space at art's complex has given me the opportunity to return to my first love, drawing.
An enduring passion for trees has led to many years spent visiting woodlands and collecting images, which are now bearing fruit as a series of large charcoal studies, in addition to pastel and mixed media works.
I am interested in the survivors – not the fine symmetrical specimens, but the way they provide a solid representation of time. I'm exploring the links between human intervention and the development of individual trees, particularly those that have been pollarded, coppiced, hedged or managed in the past, linking us to times when trees were regarded as a vital renewable resource.
My recent solo show 'Time Made Wood' at art's complex explored these themes.
