Pastel
Much of my most recent work has been done using soft pastels. I'm fascinated by the intense colour and sense of light they can convey and they also allow me to explore the textural variety of the tree's surface.
Many of the images stem from photographs taken when the trees are in full leaf - this heightens their sense of woodland shade and contrast. I will examine these many times until sections draw my attention, then use close cropping to select areas to work up.
