Public Arts Projects
Some of the most rewarding projects for me are the public arts projects, where participants explore new ideas and take risks together, sharing their pride in their achievements when displayed.
Each project is different, being tailored to a specific place, group or theme, but they all have some things in common - they are fun, involve learning and creative dialogue, enhance the environment and speak to a wide audience.
I have recently completed my role as Community Artist on the "HeART of Boghall" public art project, funded through the Grassroots Art Fund. This project aimed to bring the community together creatively, promoting sharing of experience and skills and improving the local environment.
It had two strands
- a permanent public sculpture was to be created in a currently unloved public space, giving a focus to the regeneration of the area
- local children, young people and adults would make their own small scale sculptures in community workshops, which were portable and could be gathered and exhibited in flexible ways around the area
Sculptor Robin Wood created the permanent works and I ran trips, events and workshops to consult with and inspire local residents.

For organisations thinking about public arts projects, I can help with any of the following:
- develop ideas
- work up proposals
- apply for funding
- manage the project
- recruit participants
- run workshops
- produce artwork
- evaluate the project
Some examples
- Transparent – a photography project about what it means to be a parent
- Wish project – exploring what we'd wish for ourselves, others and our community
- Bird Sculptures – garden structures at an RSPB monitoring site
- CTDU mosaic –representing the organisation
