On finding these ancient oaks I was struck by a powerful feeling of my being a very short-lived creature amongst ancients.
I set out to capture their slow dance on the paper with a mixture of bold gestural marks and subtle shifts in tone. The finished drawings have an ethereal ambiguity, at once suggesting closely observed trees, watery forms and expressive figures.
