Open Studio for the Forth Bridges Creative Trail 2026

Your invitation to visit my studio

At the end of May I’m taking part in the second Forth Bridges Creative Trail, a weekend of open studios, pop up exhibitions, workshops and creative events centred around the southern ends of the iconic Forth Bridges.

I’ve lived in South Queensferry for 25 years and had my purpose-built garden studio for almost ten of those, so I’m delighted to have my studio included in the programme. A dedicated and enthusiastic committee have been busy securing interesting venues and building excitement in the town to celebrate local artists and makers.

I’ll be opening my home studio (Venue 9) for the Trail on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May, between 10am – 5pm.

I’ll be sharing my current works in progress, a selection of finished artwork and of course all the fascinating materials, tools and random stuff that makes up a working artist’s studio.

What you’ll find when you visit

  • A thin layer of charcoal dust on almost everything!
  • Original artworks for sale, including works from the archive and small pieces for under £100.
  • My living room ‘gallery’ hung with charcoal and mixed media works.
  • Pieces of trees which have made their way home with my from my woodland trips.
  • Plan chest drawers holding an archive of drawings from 15 years of tree drawing.
  • Books and cards for gifts or treats for yourself.
  • My artist’s mind map, now in its 4th iteration, which gives me the foundations to build all my art practice on.
  • Sketchbooks – the analogue equivalent of the artist’s hard drive storing images, thoughts, quotations and the occasional phone number. Pure magic in there.
  • Tools of my trade – the materials I use to make my work. I’m quite a tidy artist, having done my early training in workshop environments, I absolutely hate not being able to find something quickly.
  • Cool tips and tricks for studio storage and display – I love problem solving in the studio and have designed it to flow and change with me.
  • You’ll also get chance to chat with me, ask questions and find out more about why and how I draw.

How to get to my studio

My garden studio is at Venue 9 on Shore Road, EH30 9SG, just past the library on the left going towards Port Edgar Marina. Look out for signs pointing the way.

  • By bus: From Edinburgh take the Lothian Country number 43 bus, the nearest stop Police station is 1 minute walk from the studio.
  • By train: The nearest train station is Dalmeny, then about 15 minutes walk downhill to the shore.
  • By car: There is a large ticketed car park at Port Edgar Marina, 5 minutes walk from my studio. On street parking is possible but usually busy at weekends.
  • Accessibility: Unfortunately there is no level access to the studio, with two steps into the garden and eight steps up to the studio itself. My apologies if this excludes you but the garden is on a slope.
